Last year, Senator Rand Paul, or likely one of his staffers , tweeted a quote by the good Judge Napolitano from one of his speeches:

"Why do we have a Second Amendment? It's not to shoot deer. It's to shoot at the government when it becomes tyrannical!"

While some thought this tweet was ironic or "did not age well" given the attempted mass political assassination of Republican lawmakers, including Senator Paul, by a deranged Bernie Sanders campaign volunteer, it doesn't make Napolitano's statement any less incorrect or inaccurate.

Even without the Constitution or Bill of Rights stating it, each individual (and the people collectively) has the inherent, inalienable, natural, God-given, human, civil, whatever you want to call it, right to self defense and self preservation against anything that would threaten them, from criminals to a tyrannical government, and this right was deemed important enough to include an amendment in our Founding Document that the government could not deny people their right to keep and bear arms for this very purpose. There is no better tool for self preservation. The Second Amendment doesn't give us nor grant us this right; the right exists without the Second Amendment, it just says the government can't infringe on it. "The security of a free state" is the people's final check on government power, or overreach of power, to keep us free from tyranny.

So the question begs to be asked then, if the Second Amendment exists for the people to "shoot at the government", when is political violence ok?

Given that Independence Day is just around the corner, a look to TJ and the Declaration provides a decent answer:

"[When] a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."

Absolute despotism. This seems to be a fair bar that ought to be and was originally set for justified political violence. But who then judges or determines what absolute despotism is?

Are deranged Bernie Sanders supporters currently experiencing absolute despotism? If so, how?

Is losing an election absolute despotism? Is it being triggered by words that you consider "hate speech"? Is it not having your preferred government run healthcare? Is having a gay Jew who likes black men speaking on your campus about freedom of expression, capitalism, and having a different political opinion than the majority of a college's undergrads and professors, who is called a racist National Socialist (Nazi) by self-proclaimed socialists, absolute despotism, and justifies political violence against him?

Their hatred for their political adversaries does not make the target of their hate "absolutely despotic". A despot actually has to do something despotic to justify political self defense. As TJ also stated in the Declaration:

"Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes."

Deranged Bernie Sanders supporters aren't exactly known for their prudence, nor as Caitlyn Jenner recently stated, their aim. Thank God.

Maybe if, say, California treated gay men like it treats gun owners and they suffered the real fear of being thrown in prison that they'd live with every day if they exercised their rights without government permission or compliance, a case could be made for deranged Bernie Sanders supporters throwing off that kind of homophobic despotism, but that's obviously different and not the case... because reasons.

There is a high benchmark that ought to be placed on absolute despotism and justifiable political violence, and the Second Amendment does guarantee the people's ability to "shoot at the government" when that benchmark has been met. But for you aspiring deranged Bernie Sanders supporters, this benchmark isn't even close to being met in Realville, a place you really need to visit if only it weren't for the 1% keeping you out #Resist
