Citigroup goes full semi retard with Commercial Firearms Policy

Lastly, you admit, “We have few relationships with companies that manufacture firearms.” Then why the hell waste your time and PR with this crap unless it was just to virtue signal to your Manhattan liberal friends that you’re “doing something” by doing virtually nothing besides alienate the other side of this issue?

Citigroup has announced that it is instituting a new U.S. Commercial Firearms Policy, a set of guidelines and so-called “best practices” it will require of firearm companies that it claims are “common-sense measures that would help prevent firearms from getting into the wrong hands”, that due to inaction by legislators, it feels as a company must be acted on.

Edward Skylar, Citi’s Executive Vice President of Global Public Affairs, wrote:

Under this new policy, we will require new retail sector clients or partners to adhere to these best practices:

(1) they don’t sell firearms to someone who hasn’t passed a background check,

(2) they restrict the sale of firearms for individuals under 21 years of age, and

(3) they don’t sell bump stocks or high-capacity magazines.

This policy will apply across the firm, including to small business, commercial and institutional clients, as well as credit card partners, whether co-brand or private label. It doesn't impact the ability of consumers to use their Citi cards at merchants of their choice.

Let’s start with (1). It is already federal law that any person who wants to buy a firearm from a commercial retailer must go through and pass a background check, and that the retailer has a valid Federal Firearms License to sell firearms. The fact that you don’t know this is the first sign that you can’t be taken seriously.

(2) In your announcement you state, “There are millions of Americans who use firearms for recreational and other legitimate purposes, and we respect their Constitutional right to do so.” I suggest you add, “Except for legal adults between the ages of 18-20, who we believe are old enough to sign up for military service, be issued a fully automatic rifle and be sent off to fight or die in war, but not old enough for Citigroup to buy a shotgun back at home.” What other Constitutionally protected rights do you not support for legal adults between the ages of 18-20?

(3) Nice lumping of bump stocks and arbitrarily defined “high capacity” magazines into the same category. If you could tell me how a bump stock actually works, you’d also have to stop doing business with any company that sells pants with belt loops, or with people who have two steady hands. As for magazine capacity, you’re from New York. You arbitrarily limited magazine capacity to 7, didn’t you? Even a single stack 1911 handgun, a design that’s been around for over 100 years, has a capacity of 8.

So how does any of this “keep guns out of the wrong hands?” It doesn’t.

You tweeted, “[Our U.S. Commercial Firearms Policy] doesn't impact the ability of #Citi cardholders to use their credit cards to make purchases but it does set a policy regarding who we will work with as a client or a partner.” What makes you think we’ll still use your credit cards to make purchases? Have you not seen the hit Dick’s has taken?

I’m grappling whether I should just cancel my Citi credit card due to your sheer stupidity, or if I should only buy firearm related items with it.
